Starfree???
Ok, so a couple of things have been bugging me lately and I have to get it off my chest. Perhaps you guys can give me some insight on this: 1) We're supposed to be in a recession right now, but people are still lined up at Starbucks paying ridiculous amounts of money for coffee drinks every day, and 2) I read that 95% of all music downloads last year were illegal (and there were over a billion legally downloaded songs)...that's nearly 19 BILLION illegally downloaded songs...yikes!
What I'm getting at is if someone frequents Starbucks on a daily basis AND still downloads music illegally, they're an asshole who deserves a good smack because: 1) they have the money to actually support the bands they enjoy, but choose not to and 2) Coffee has never, and will never, define ones character. You will never reminisce about days gone by from the taste of a cup of Starbucks like you will when you hear a song from your childhood.
So if you know someone who does this, tell them they 1) should start paying for music and supporting the bands they enjoy or 2) they should man-up and start stealing Starbucks too so you won't call them a hypocrite.
At what point in our society did our priorities get so fucked up that we value coffee higher than music/art?

Coffee is scene now dude (starbucks especially). Stupid people pay stupid amounts of money for coffee laced with "specialty" whipped cream and cinnamon. Denny's offers 49 cent coffee, and im pretty sure if youre polite to the server, she'll squirt whipped cream on it and throw it in the freezer so caffeine fashionistas can have there "iced latte" at a cheap ass price. CDs are STILL worth alot in my book. As much as i love my ipod, listening to shit in my car with my girlfriend means so much more....Music and making music for the sake of music is art, multi million dollar coffee chains ripping consumers off for the sake of fat ass pockets while the rest of the country suffers is shit. the music they SALE at starbucks sucks balles for the most part anyway

i for one love starbucks.. but i dont drink it religiously. and i pay for my music.
the reasons why are:
1)i dont want my computer to get a virus
2)im too scared
and 3)great bands like yourselfs deserve it.
you guys deserve to know that you guys are amazing [and youre my favorite band].. and that youre music has an effect on people and you need to know that by us buying it that its that awesome.
so i think what you guys do for a living is amazing and that you deserve nothing but greatness.

what i believe is it's all kids downloading this music. all teenagers and college kids and most of them are jsut listening to it because it's cool. they are listening to all of this awful meaningless crap like brokecyde alongside bands that are actually good and worth hearing and enjoying. but then there are some who just don't have enough money with all the adults picking up our summer jobs as their full time ones. and we're stuck scraping together money to go ot shows ad see the bands we love and expririence music.
i think people buy coffee at starbucks to be cool basically. they could get cheap coffee at like mcdonald's but they chose shitty starbucks because they can. and all of those people i doubt do anything but follow trends if they are desperate to spend four hours ordering a simple drink.
now with bands they need to be innovative. theres this band empires, they're small and what not but they offer their album for free download on their website. it's a good record. and on itunes they are selling it too. and for the traditional people like me who like hard copies they sell hard copies. the only reason i download music is to see if it's worth buying. it's a way for me to check out the music. if i buy it the files i downloaded are deleted and i put my CDs on my iPod and blast them in my stereo. but being innovative i what we need to do.
now artists are given even more chances to be creative. you have to be creative with your art and creative in how you make money. basically if a band doesn't do either, they're just doing the easy way out and wasting whatever talent they have talent like people waste money on shitty starbucks coffee.
you guys are amazing. i own all of your records. paid for by the $40 i spend every three months at newbury comics
damn i really agree with whoever said the thing about shit "bands" like brokencyde. I decided NOT to see senses fail who i love, because i dont feel like supporting shit bands. and empires is awesome, although not so innovative (NIN and radiohead)
but i think one of the best ways for ppl to buy music, online or a physical cd, is like a personal touch. after downloading empires' cd(like the above kid) they all signed it, so that means something for me. Like if I meet someone in a band, and theyre not a douche, then its like they have my allegiance. I support people who are real, opinionated, but not self absorbed. Like HH!!
id say another reason ppl dont buy music, is because theres so much shit people buy, like apple computers and ipods, as cool as they are, are GROSSLY overpriced. people spend so much money on things that they would use to listen to music, they have none left and rationalize stealing music because they already spent their money.
this blog is absolutely genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh one more thing. eron you gotta watch out on your titles. I seriously got confused cuz i thought starfree was a pokemon before i read the post.
Hey, I myself enjoy the occasional grande caramel macchiato.. I definitely don't get one everyday day though. At $3.65, I probably get one like once a month if that, and call it a treat. I lucked out though, because they have them at Wawa now for a lot cheaper, not as good but hey it's good for me lol. It's ridiculous how many people don't get their money together to buy a great album, and steal hard work and sales because they are too cheap to buy a cd, or pay 99 cents for a download.. No one will ever again be able to accomplish what Michael Jackson did with 'Thriller'. 65 million copies I believe, and still rising. Times have changed, and people really don't care like they used to. It's a frustrating realization, but it's life right now. Hopefully things will change.. Did you hear that The Beatles are the only major artists to not have their music illegally downloaded? I wonder what other kind of protection is out there like this... Claudia..<3
God, this blog comment thing is awesome. <3
Anyway.
I'll admit I download music through limewire but only cause I can only afford a CD every few months or so. If it's any consolation, I doo eventually by the CD =D. As for Starbucks, I've gone there once because my friend gave me a gift card. Really, they're overpriced and people need to stop giving them money. Yeesh.
Thing is about the downloading, teens/kids like myself who really love the music and cannot afford to be paying forty+ dollars on three/four CDs or have parents who are wary about using the internet to pay anything, have to resort to other means or else we'll never get our music. And I don't even use an iPoop as I dislike them and I think that the sansa which is waaaay cheaper is better. Of course CD's>digital
I for one wish I could go to all the concerts you guys do here in NY but I can't ever get the money to do so. The only way I can try to show support is by getting other people to listen to the music as well and get them to buy CD's or something. I try to make up for the music I download.
But I definitely don't go to starbucks. ...Music is moore important.
Great blog!
I’ve been trying to get a hold of you. I just have three questions… Is the silence Alliance ever coming back, if so when? Is there anyway I could purchase A Day In The Life’s Four Bullets For One Girl and Paper Chromatography: the fade from dark to light? I have looked EVERYWHERE for this, I have even contacted the old record companies you were with. Is a new Hawthorne Heights forum going up anytime soon? Because all of the regular users of the old forum made a new forum but we are just curious if and when the new one will be put up. I would really appreciate it if you would respond. Thanks so much!

About brokencyde a member of senses fail made this statment
Yeah, I slam them every night because in no way, shape or form do I back anything they do or say and I am embarrassed that kids these days are into it and am sad that kids these days are exposed to it. There is absolutely no substance whatsoever in their songs and no passion in anything they do. It is the musical equivalent of a snow cone, bland tasting frozen tap water loaded with sugar, yet colorful, that will give you a brain freeze, melt all over your hands leaving yourself dissatisfied and sticky. They seem like pretty harmless guys but if I don’t voice my opinion on what I think about Brokencyde then I have no right to ever speak up about any other injustices to the music scene in the future. There are only going to be more Brokencydes in the coming months with Millionaires, Breath Carolina and countless other mindless white suburban hip-hop “acts” popping up. I never thought Id say this but this new wave of horse shit makes me look back and not hate Atom and His Package because at least he was original. I know I am not going to change anything, there will still be 14 year old girls that like their colorful merch and there terrible club beats but if I can make one person at least question the authenticity and integrity of singing the words “let’s get freaky now, let’s get fucking freaky now” then I think it is well worth the effort.”
-Buddy from Senses Fail on his current tour mates
Well, most people who drink coffee every day rely on it. It's addictive.
hey jasey, where did you get that quote from buddy?
hes like such a REAL guy, he really has my respect for being an opinionated guy, even if i did disagree which i dont. i got a chance to talk with him after their tour last fall.
Eron, not all people who drink Starbucks steal music, and vice-versa... It seems a tad odd that you would group these two things together. I can see where you're coming from though. I don't drink Starbucks (too expensive + bad for the enviroment) and I don't steal music either. But not all Starbucks drinkers are music pirates. JT for instance... He seems to like Starbucks, but he's a great one for lectures about the evils of stealing music. If folks want to indulge themselves a little with expensive coffee, what's the harm? For some of them it's probably the high point of the day. Music thieves, on the other hand, are just that: Theives. I've always been of the mindset that if you love a band enough to listen to them, then you love them enough to pay them their dues. Umm okay the end. Tried to be very diplomatic, I hope I acheived this.
...did I say folks?
